How and Why So Cal Comic Con formed
Welcome to the So Cal Comic Con website. Our names are Rey Reyes and Joel Elad, and we are the So Cal Comic Con. Between the two of us, we have over 50 years experience in collecting comics. We have been avid comic readers and collectors for over 2 decades. For a long time now we have attended many comic cons, and always believed that not every show truly captured the energy, enthusiasm, and diversity that a comic con can offer. An overflow of demand and followers have inspired us to bring exciting events to our peers in the Southern California area. It seems that a lot of comic cons are slipping away from their comic roots and doing more to cater to Media Events instead of just focusing on what a comic con should be about: “Comics.”
Here at our show, you can meet many dealers who sell a wide variety of comics, from the Golden Age of the 1930's and 1940's to the Modern Age of today's comic books. You will get the chance to meet various artists in the industry and share your ideas about comics, commission an original piece of artwork, or just say hi to your favorite creator. Currently, we are a local show for the city of Oceanside, California but hopefully, in the future, we will expand to other parts of Southern California and have more shows throughout the year.
We brought our first So Cal Comic Con to the Oceanside Boys and Girls Club on Saturday, November 6th, 2010. We were overwhelmed with a terrific response from the community as our dealers sold comic books and other merchandise to hundreds of visitors, fans, and some new comic book readers. We had a number of exciting raffles throughout the day, including a copy of Daredevil #1 from 1964 that was won by Terry O'Neill from Orange County, CA! Check out the Gallery for pictures from that show!
We returned on Saturday, August 27th, 2011, with special guest J. Scott Campbell, an exclusive Sleeping Beauty print, a surprise appearance by artist Joe Benitez, a number of Southern Cal artists like Tone Rodriguez, Chris Moreno, Joel Gomez, and Richard Friend, and a packed house of fans getting sketches, comics, and toys.
Our next So Cal Comic Con in Oceanside is scheduled for Sunday November 18th, 2012. Stay tuned for details and don't miss it!
